A former chief of staff to California state senator Marie Alvarado-Gil has filed a lawsuit accusing the senator of coercing him into performing sexual acts as part of a “quid pro quo relationship.” The staffer, Chad Condit, claims the alleged encounters left him with severe back and hip injuries. The lawsuit, filed in Sacramento Superior Court, outlines a series of incidents in which Condit says he felt pressured to engage in sexual acts with Alvarado-Gil, including during work trips. According to the suit, the senator used her position of power to compel the sexual acts, and Condit claims he complied out of fear for his job.
Condit, son of former Congressman Gary Condit, described a final encounter in which he was forced to “twist and contort” while performing oral sex in a car, resulting in three herniated discs and a collapsed hip. He later used these injuries as an excuse to reject Alvarado-Gil’s advances, but alleges she retaliated by issuing a disciplinary letter accusing him of inappropriate behavior. The staffer claims he was ultimately fired in December 2023, after making it clear that he could no longer tolerate the sexual demands and was undergoing back surgery.
The lawsuit portrays Alvarado-Gil as an “erratic” and “controlling” boss, accusing her of abusing her authority in a sexually dominating manner. Condit alleges that her actions amounted to sexual harassment and that he suffered both physical and professional harm as a result. Alvarado-Gil, who was elected as a Democrat in 2022 before switching to the Republican Party in 2024, has denied the allegations through her attorney, Ognian Gavrilov. The attorney dismissed the claims as fabrications made by a “disgruntled former employee” seeking financial gain.
Alvarado-Gil recently made headlines after defecting from the Democratic Party, citing her dissatisfaction with its current leadership and policies. She now represents a largely rural district in northeastern California and has aligned herself with the Republican Party. Alvarado-Gil’s attorney insists that the senator will be fully exonerated, characterizing the lawsuit as baseless and financially motivated.
